God – The Unsearchable One

Romans 11:33 – Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

What does this passage teach us about God?

This passage does not teach that He is so unsearchable that we can know nothing about the mind of God.
1 Corinthians 2:16 – And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
1 Corinthians 2, Paul highlights what the godly man can know about the Lord.
How can what Paul says in Romans 11 and 1 Corinthians 2 be harmonized? The spiritual man can certainly know aspects of the Lord’s mind.
See John 8, 2 Timothy 1:12, Romans 8:28, 1 Corinthians 2:12, 2 Corinthians 5:11

We can know God and can learn about his will.
Deuteronomy 29:29 – The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

There will be things we will not know in this life.
Acts 1:7 tells us there are answers that we are not going to find because they are not there for us to find.

Further, there are things about God because we cannot know because:

  1. They have not been revealed.
  2. They are beyond our ability to comprehend.

Ephesians 3:19 – and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Isaiah 55:8- 9 – For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

May we have confidence that God’s Word is sufficient for us to be pleasing to him:
2 Timothy 2:16-17 – All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
