Blessed Assurance

God’s people can have confidence that He will care for us. No matter what we face, even passing from this life, we have the blessed assurance of hope in Jesus.

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood”
– Francis Jane Crosby

The Bible teaches that we can have true inner peace with this assurance.

Knowledge of the Truth

Knowledge of God’s Word is required for us to have this assurance. We can have a false assurance. Assurance comes from understanding and understanding comes from studying God’s word in order to apply its principles.

Colossians 2:2 (ESV): 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ,

The Gospel also brings assurance.
1 Thessalonians 1:5 (ESV): 5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.

Assurance draws us close to God.
Hebrews 10:22 (ESV): 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.Romans 10:17 (ESV): 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.2 Timothy 2:15 (ESV): 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

It’s important to God what we believe and follow. Continue in studying the Word so that you can be assured during challenging times.

We Can Have Blessed Assurance

While assurance starts with an understanding of God’s will some people doubt they can have it.
Ephesians 1:7 (ESV): 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

John 3:16 (ESV): 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

2 Corinthians 2:14 (ESV): 14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.

Ephesians 1:7 (ESV): 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

You can have this blessed salvation by following the Gospel plan of salvation. This assurance starts with hearing the Word, then believing it. It should then convict us of our sins to the point we repent of them and confess Christ as our Savior. When we are baptized into the blood of Christ, we are saved by faith and have our sins washed away. So then, we should walk in a new life and have this assurance (Romans 3:3-5).

We all need forgiveness to be in Christ and to benefit from this assurance. He doesn’t expect his people to be perfect but He does expect us to confess our sin and strive to be better (1 John 1:9).

The Bible directs us to heaven (Hebrews 4:12, Romans 1:16).
Romans 1:16 (ESV): 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

John 15:3 (ESV): 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.

The Word leads us to be cleansed and live faithfully.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV): 58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

The Christian has full assurance that brings comfort and encouragement that will carry you through everything Satan can throw at you. It will see you through in the best way possible. But we also have to do our part to take hold of that assurance. We must be faithful and steadfast in our walk with God. We can’t expect God to do all of the work when we turn away from Him in our daily lives.

Do you have that blessed assurance?
